LIVE PERFORMANCES: HOW WOODZ ROCK IT
Being in the industry for 10 years in total, Woodz has always served his listeners with good quality live vocal and stage presence. One thing about him that not everyone might notice is that he always prepared a live clip for almost all of the songs he released. Recently, the clip that has gone viral is his live clip for his song ‘Drowning’, accompanied by live band instrument and with the legendary three octaves note the clip now has 3.8 million views on YouTube in a span of 10 months after being uploaded.
Beside his amazing vocals, his soulful expression also adds depth in the clip’s layers, even with no choreography the ‘Drowning’ live clip has successfully stolen public’s attention. Woodz is also a good dancer, he graduated from Hanlim School of Arts’ Dance Department in 2016. His recent music shows performances rarely contain hard choreography but back in his boy group member era he always got noticed for his dancing and pleasant expression while dancing. One of the popular clips of his performance is when he was still in X1, they were doing a promotion for their song ‘Flash’ and Woodz’s focus-cam of the performance went viral.

So, how does he do it? With different genres and concepts he always put his 100% on every performance, here are some of the things that might be the factors of the success of his performances.
Physical Exercise
Woodz has always been known as an athletic person. He plays a lot of sports such as soccer, which he focused back then while still in Brazil, basketball, and snowboarding. He also often goes on a live streaming while doing exercise, he shares his workout routine with the fans. One time he went on a silly little live streaming and doing karaoke, he shows himself singing a song while running and surprisingly he still sounds so good. This singing while running method is a common training method for idols in South Korea to make them sound stable on performances where they have to dance as well.
Deep Understanding on Concept Applied
Being a good performer also means knowing how to show a suitable expression for a certain song or lyrics, it is almost similar to acting but instead of saying lines, it uses singing instead. Woodz has been known as a facial expression genius, no matter what genre he is pulling at the time he always serves a very pleasing expression. For example, his song ‘Bump Bump’ has a cute concept, the song is about a couple that is always in a conflict but then reconciles again, he also wondered where the sweetness of love has gone. Despite the message that the song conveys, Woodz tends to deliver it in a cute and cheerful way which makes it unique. The production process of the song and concept is done by himself resulting in thorough understanding of the way the performance wanted to be executed so the emotions and expressions that are needed in the performance could be delivered nicely.
Constant Training
Woodz is a person that always seeks for new insights and also practices his skills regularly. After debuting for years even though his career as a singer haven’t reached the peak yet, he has a stable career as a composer and still decided to join a survival show to level-up his abilities. He doesn’t brag himself as someone experienced and takes every advice that are given to him and always try to be better at what he is doing, this characteristic of him explained why he is really good at doing performances
Genuine Interest
To be a singer has been a dream of Woodz since he was still a kid, with his genuine interest in music he has succeeded to build an original and unique image that is only owned by him. Rather than following the trend in music, Woodz shows his true color through his songs and puts his whole heart into the production process that are documented on his Youtube content ‘HOW: how ordinary, we’re’, meaning that he also puts a hundred percent effort in making his performances enjoyable to a lot of people.
Those are the tips that we might apply on not only performances but also other activities. The most important thing is to work hard for everything if you want to receive good feedback about it.
