How Woodz do his Music Composing and Producing
Woodz has done song producing even since his rookie era, he also always be the main producer of his own album. One of the remarkable songs he has produced is ‘It’s Ok’, a final song for Chinese survival show ‘Idol Producer’ and he contributes in the production of a concept evaluation song for Korean survival show ‘The Unit’ as well and it was long before he joined survival show ‘Produce X 101’ as a contestant. Making songs for big shows like survival shows is enough to explain how good he is at song production.
Another proof that Woodz is a genius producer is the amount of songs he made for South Korean big artists. Woodz once contributed to the production of a song for Super Junior’s Sub-Unit ‘D&E’ who came from a big company, ‘SM Entertainment’. The song title is ‘Evanesce II’, SM Entertainment has known for a long time as a company that is very strict with the songs that they are releasing, Woodz sang the demo for ‘Evanesce II’ and you can hear his voice on the song as a background vocal. Woodz being able to make his music being chosen by SM Entertainment and got actually released is very fascinating considering his age being very young at that time. He also produced the song ‘Don’t Hang Up’ popularized by ‘SURAN’, a South Korean female soloist, again he sang the demo by himself and the demos are coming into the surface years after the song released and it shocks the public that he is the one that sang the demo for those songs. When he joined Produce X 101, the song he and his friends performed at the very first class evaluation was also produced by him which later released unofficially on his youtube channel after the program ended and X1 disbanded.
Not to mention the hit songs of himself that are also produced by his own self such as Drowning, I Hate You, Sun or Suck, and etc. So, what’s his key points to make good music? Let’s check it out.
Be Brave to Explore
Woodz always experiments with a lot of music genres, lyric writing styles and vocal techniques. He has tried rock, RnB, pop, hip-hop and a lot more genres. He worked with a lot of music to unfold all the possible potential that he got and polish the potential he found at his journey of exploring.
Use Your Imagination
In one of his ‘HOW: how ordinary we’re’ YouTube content, Woodz said that he imagined situations and ambiences that he wanted to convey through his music. When he became a guest in Red Velvet’s Seulgi visual radio program ‘Seulgi’s Zip’ he also stated that he once wrote a song based on Seulgi’s vocal tone, Woodz said that he imagined what kind of song would suite her tone is it a sad song or a cheerful song and then imagined what kind of situation that she would face to come up with the kind of song that he has in mind. The same situation also happened when he became a guest in ‘Lee Hyori’s Red Carpet’, a show by the legendary female soloist Lee Hyori, when she explored his laptop he confessed about writing a song that he thinks would suite Lee Hyori
Deliver Your Own Experiences
Woodz used a lot of his own experiences as an inspiration for the songs he wrote. One of the examples is the song ‘Meaningless’ that he wrote during his hard time. He expresses his confusion about what to do in life and what’s the intention to live and his desire to survive and continue living, using your experience as a reference gives you a full understanding of what you wanted to make and how you want to deliver it.
Those are the tips on how to produce music that you might take from Woodz. Don’t forget that the main point that determines your success is your own hard work and dedication to what you’re doing.
